Sunday afternoons are optimal SL time for my schedule, which is why I have my Dreamer's Circle meetings then. The membership has dwindled down to myself and Alanagh Recreant, and was forced to become more unofficial since Alanagh reached her Group limit.

I've offered to do a regular 'newbie class' at Quantum Fields, and it's looking like Sunday mornings, a little before my Group meeting, will work best.

I just realized that I phrased that first sentence a bit badly for what I meant, but going back over notecards to post them via my BlogHUD tends to glitch them, so let me plow forward and clarify--Sunday afternoons in my time zone are optimal SL time, tho

Anyway, I was invited to Galatea Gynoid's rezday party at Extropia and decided I could meet with Alanagh in IM, as we've been known to do. Alanagh asked if we could do the same, since it turned out she was going to someone's rezday party . . .

You can kind of guess how it turned out. So we were able to meet and say hello to everybody, and do our little goal setting session in IM while dancing.

I love this place.

Also, while I was scoping out possible classroom locations for my newbie classes I noticed that Quantum Fields has some rather nice apartments for rent. I sent word to my darling Beginning Thursday and she jumped at the chance. She'll probably be talkin

I'm not particularly happy with the new viewer, by the way. The little tweaks to the interface are things I'll get used to in time, but the crashing more times in a few days than I had in weeks is not so great. *grumble*

EDIT: As much as I appreciate the kind comments emanating anonymously from Washington and Indiana, the odd vagueness of the remarks smelled a little too much like spam for my liking, so I deleted them. I understand that not everybody has or even wants a LiveJournal, and thus I allow anonymous comments, but I do leave the IP tracing option over and I have no fear of the delete button. Keep that in mind.

REQUEST FOR HELP

We would like to request your help with [e]bizikile, the first fundraising event of UTHANGO in Second Life, in association with Charitable Hearts.

UTHANGO needs Individuals, organisations, companies, clubs or merchants that is willing to place a vendor at their premises. We plan to sell our unique African bikes to raise awareness and funds for a real-life project. We also want to emphasize the importance of bicycles in African cities and rural towns.

MORE ABOUT THE EVENT

The [e]bizikile fundraising drive starts 15 November, continuing over the upcoming festive Season. The unique wearable, low-prim BICYCLE in four versions is only L$250 each - close to $1. These beautiful bicycles were made exclusively for us by Shukran Fahid of !BooPeRFunK! and will be the only ones that can be used next year in a grid-wide bike-a-thon that we will be organizing.

All vendors will be formally recognised at the Uthango office with a LM to your location.

MORE ABOUT UTHANGO & THE FUNDS

Uthango Social Investments is a registered South African charity working directly with more than 12400 people living in poverty.
It is also the first African-based company and NGO officially in SL, where it will launch VIRTUAL AFRICA in 2008.

Funds from the [e]bizikile fundraising event will go to one of our real life projects that require resources; an OPPORTUNITY CENTRE based in an impoverished Cape Town community, for unemployed job seekers.

I know some people get a bit cranky when people drag RL into SL, but I have to go into a bit of backstory to explain things.

I was previously in a group in RL that met regularly to set goals and discuss them. It was incredibly simple and yet quite powerful--each meeting (the meetings varied from weekly to monthly, depending on our schedules) we would get goals to be completed by the next meeting. And then at the next meeting we would talk about how we did, cheer our victories, soothe our defeats and discuss our long-term plans.

The group eventually disbanded amicably and I made an attempt to start a new one along the same lines, to no avail.

So I decided to start one in Second Life.

I set up an Event for an initial meeting on Sunday afternoon and detailed what I was planning to do. I had no clue if anybody else would be interested or not, but I figured there was no harm done in trying. At worst, I'd lose L$100 setting up a Group and not getting at least one other person to join.

Well, I ended up with four other people, which is actually the optimum size for me. (I'd made a note that I'd be limiting the Group to ten people at most.) Everybody seems quite enthusiastic and I feel we're all on a similar wavelength. I'm really looking forward to how this progresses.

So, while I was in exile from Second Life last week, I heard on the radio (yes, it was a news item) that gambling had been banned from Second Life.

CyFishy's Thoughts on Ya- er, I mean, Gambling . . .  )

We shall see. For me, I'll only worry if they start banning art galleries, gardens and dance clubs, so maybe it just depends on what you get out of it . . .

I uploaded a new icon, this time with my boyface. I changed the picture on my SL profile so My Life As A Girl wouldn't be as instantly obvious to the casual observer. We'll see if that changes the way people take me.
